Hysterectomy is a procedure used to remove the uterus (womb). After the uterus removal surgery you will no longer be able to get pregnant. Yes, hysterectomy is safest surgical procedures but as with any surgery some problems like fever, infection, injury to urinary tract or nearby organs, bleeding during or after the surgery.
The type of hysterectomy is best for you will depend on your medical conditions. Removing only uterus will not send you into menopause. You will still ovulate but you will not menstrual period or be able to become pregnant.

Depending on the condition in some cases bilateral oophorectomy (removal of ovaries) along with bilateral salpingectomy (removal of fallopian tube) is performed.
