What is hernia?
Hernia is protrusion of organ through an opening in the muscle or tissue that holds it in place. For eg intestine may come out through a weakened area in abdominal wall.
Also hernia may occur in chest, hips, upper thigh and groin area.
Most hernia are not immediately life threatening but don’t go away on their own. They require surgery to prevent serious complications.
What you feel?
- Lump or bulge in your affected area, like in case of inguinal hernia you have swelling in your groin or scrotum
- You feel that swelling increase with coughing, standing or straining
- Sometime swelling disappeared while you laying down or you have to manually retracted
- Pain or discomfort over swelling.
